ATLAS Virtual Visits
A Virtual Visit is a live video connection by a group (typically a classroom) to the ATLAS Experiment at CERN. A guide, who is a scientist or an engineer working on the experiment, meets visitors from the control room or (during planned LHC shutdowns) from the detector underground.
During a Virtual Visit, guides will
- Introduce themselves and describe their work in particle physics.
- Present CERN, the Large Hadron Collider (LHC), and the ATLAS experiment, including its goals and accomplishments.
- Invite questions from the audience.
We recommend audiences prepare questions ahead of time. This can be facilitated by viewing this introductory video.
Group Virtual Visits
Groups of at least 10 visitors (such as classrooms) can schedule their own visit by completing this form.

The Science Club of the Rio Grande do Norte State School Zila Mamede on Natal will make a virtual visit to the ATLAS Experiment at CERN, Switzerland on July 21st at 19h Geneva time. The visit will be coordinated by professor Amanda Vivian in Brazil and by researcher Denis Oliveira Damazio (ATLAS/BNL-CERN) in Switzerland. The students will see the ATLAS detector control room, parts of the detector and can discuss with the researcher online.
The University of Sheffield’s School of Mathematics and Physical Sciences is offering a research experience week in Physics and Astronomy. Year-12 school students signed up to learn about research in Physics and Astronomy and will have the chance to visit the ATLAS experiment remotely as part of their work experience.
